Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the national poet of Pakistan, a great thinker, was born on 9 November 1877 at Sialkot. He belonged to a respectable Kashmiri family. 

After passing his matric examination, he joined Murry College, Sialkot. Then he joined government college Lahore and got his M.A degree in philosophy.

He wanted to awaken the Muslims through his poetry. He wrote his poems in Urdu and Persian languages. Iqbal was the first conceived the idea of Pakistan and put his idea before the Muslim league in 1930 and Quaid-i-Azam realized his dream. 

Unfortunately, he did not live to see his dream come true and died on the 21st of April 1938. His tomb is near Badshahi Mosque Lahore.
