SHAH ABDUL LATIF
The soil of Sindh is not only fertile in the field of agriculture but it is also fertile in producing the greatest politicians, educationists, scientists, saints, Sufis, musicians and poets. The name of Shah Abdul Latif Bhatti shines brightly among them. His sweet soul bloomed in 1689 A.D corresponding to 1102 Hijra at Hala Haveli. His father’s name was Syed Habib Shah. Shah Abdul Latif had a great craze for composing poetry. Owing to his poetic nature, he started composing poetry from his early years. He had a great love with God. He liked the calm atmosphere so he left his home after his father’s death and went to live on a mound near his village which is now called Bhit shah.
There is a lake near this mound. He prayed to God on the bank of the lake and sometimes composed verses in His praise. He possessed kind nature and gentle ways so his followers increased day by day. His courteous and kind nature captivated countless persons to accept Islam. He was not only a great poet but he was also a great saint of Sindh.
Besides being a saint, Sufi, and poet, he was also a musician. He made music simple. He invented a simple musical instrument called Tamburro. He wrote poetry in the common man’s language. He believed in the brotherhood, equality of men and in pleasing God by good deeds. This according to him is the objective of life.
His soul left his body in 1752 A.D corresponding to 1165 Hijra at Bhit Shah. His Urs is held at his shrine every year on the 14th Safar with zeal and zest. Many people from all over the country come to visit his tomb on 14th Safar with love and regard.
